PRODUCT INFORMATION
Ion channels and transporters are vital for regulating the movement of ions and molecules across cell membranes—essential for maintaining proper cellular function. Their dysfunction is linked to diseases ranging from neurological disorders to cardiac conditions, making them key targets in pharmaceutical research and drug discovery.
To advance this research, Aurora Biomed’s Ion Channel Readers (ICRs) offer a powerful mid to high-throughput screening solution. By integrating atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) with microsampling and advanced liquid handling, our ICR technology provides precise, sensitive analysis of ion flux that complements and extends beyond what automated patch-clamp systems can achieve.
Unlock the next level of ion channel and transporter analysis—from functional screening to therapeutic development.
Different Types of Ion Channels & Transporters

Aurora’s Ion Channel Readers, including the ICR 8100 and ICR 12000, provide powerful tools for analyzing ion channel and transporter activity through precise ion movement measurements.
Used by both leading pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions, ICR systems offer a cost-effective, automated solution for high-throughput screening—delivering consistent, reliable data for research and drug development alike.
ICR 8100 Mid-Throughput Ion Channel Screening Technology
The ICR 8100 is a compact, benchtop solution for mid-throughput ion channel screening, offering high sensitivity and automation at a low cost. Ideal for analyzing voltage-gated and ligand-gated ion channels, pumps, and transporters, it accelerates drug discovery without the need for radioisotopes or fluorescence-based detection.
Capable of processing up to 5,000 wells per day, the ICR 8100 provides a programmable workflow compatible with 96- and 384-well microplates—all while using minimal sample volumes.
Key Advantages of AURORA’S ICR series:
- High sensitivity: 0.05 mg/L (0.05 ppm)
- Low volume: 100 µL (~5% CV), 50 µL (≤10% CV)
- Supports 96-/384-well plates
- High-throughput options: Up to 5,000 wells/day (ICR 8100), 60,000 wells/day (ICR 12000)
- Cost-effective alternative to traditional patch-clamp or fluorescence-based systems
ICR 12000 High-Throughput Ion Channel Screening Technology
The ICR 12000 is Aurora Biomed’s premier solution for ultra-high-throughput ion channel screening—processing up to 60,000 samples per day. Designed for large-scale compound library evaluation, it supports cell-based flux assays for both ligand- and voltage-gated ion channels.
Built on Aurora’s proven atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) platform, the ICR 12000 delivers high sensitivity for both electrogenic and electroneutral channels and transporters. Its advanced multi-channel sampling and automation make it ideal for early-stage QT liability screening in drug discovery.
Ion Channel Readers (ICR) Applications:
Aurora’s ICR Series measures ion flux across membrane proteins by quantifying intracellular and extracellular ion concentrations using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)—a method independent of voltage manipulation and highly complementary to other electrophysiological techniques.
Because ion flux directly reflects channel and transporter activity, ICR-based assays are robust, less prone to interference, and produce highly consistent, predictive data—making them ideal for evaluating drug potency and compound screening.
