Aurora Biomed is pleased to announce that it will start distributing COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Device in Canada. This test has recently obtained Health Canada authorization.
The new 15-minute Rapid Covid-19 Antigen test doesn’t require additional equipment for sample analyses. The test can identify potentially contagious individuals in less than 15 minutes without the use of a reader. The new rapid antigen test is fast and easy to administer in a point-of-care setting and can be conducted by nasopharyngeal (NP) swab by non-laboratory healthcare professionals.
The Rapid Covid-19 Antigen test is a self-contained, single-use point-of-care test that is based on a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay for the detection of extracted nucleocapsid protein antigens specific to SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal specimens collected from individuals suspected of being infected with COVID-19 or exposed to COVID-19. It is not meant to replace PCR and, in fact, a positive result should be further confirmed by a PCR test. Clinical validation reports are showing results of 97.7% sensitivity and 99.1% specificity.
