Automated Extraction of 6-Monoacetylmorphine from Urine Using VERSA 1100 SPE

1 min read

6-Monoacetylmorphine, also known as 6-MAM, is a metabolite of heroin. When heroin is ingested or injected, it undergoes various metabolic processes in the body, one of which is the rapid deacetylation of heroin to 6-MAM. 6-MAM is a psychoactive compound with opioid effects and contributes to the euphoria and analgesic properties of heroin. The identification of 6-MAM in urine is widely recognized as a reliable indicator of recent heroin consumption, thus playing a crucial role in forensic toxicology laboratories. However, the conventional technique of manually extracting 6-MAM from urine samples can be both time-consuming and demanding. To address this issue, we present an application note detailing an automated extraction approach utilizing the VERSA 1100 solid phase extraction (SPE) workstation to isolate 6-MAM from urine efficiently.

Check out the application note below.
